using Virtuozzo Power Panel, cpanel/WHM
using centOS 4 (not sure if its 4.2, 4.3 or what, just know its centOS 4)
and I've been noticing the last few times I've restarted my server, apache no longer runs.. The thing is, I would just do a
chkconfig -234 httpd on
from a shell prompt, but I don't know if its httpd, bind, or what, is there a way to check what services are currently running, or set to start at bootup time from the command line? I honestly have no clue how to do it from a shell prompt, or VPP or cpanel, is there a way to find out?
main thing is, I don't know if my site is configured to use httpd 1.3 from its default location, or if its been customized (compiled from scratch) otherwise I'd check it in VZPP, whats the best way to figure that out, and how?
I know my hosting provider told me PHP was recompiled from scratch so that they could get GD working for me, but I don't know about apache, its got 2 different directories for httpd in here, and I don't know which one I'm supposed to use I guess.
either that, or does anyone know of a tutorial or place I can learn all these different things myself? a particular site or group of sites would be very helpful, as googling around hasn't been of much help to me, I'm more confused then ever after googling around for the last hour..
chkconfig --list will list all of the services, and what runlevels they run in
You can take a look at the /etc/init.d httpd script, which will probably make references to which Apache it uses. You can also try something like "which apachectl" or "which apache2ctl". That will tell you the location of the thing that is used to control apache from the command line.
