CIW Certification
Hello All,
I have a question about the CIW Certification. Im 17 and Im a senior in High School. Im extremely interested in the computer field, and I plan on going to college for computer science. The county college is offering a course for CIW Site Designer certification. I was wondering if anyone that has takin this course would recommend this. Does it have any benefit of taking? Can it help me find a job in the computer field? Any suggestions or reviews would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Some may disagree with me, but the CIW program looks useless to me. Prove your skill through real work and the word of mouth alone will get you moving far faster than a CIW Certification.

Do you have this certification? Or is it just an opinion you have about certifications?

I do not have it, and won't even consider it. Would not look for it if hiring someone, would look only for proven work.

Most people in the computer industry go with your skills rather than what it say down on paper. You dont need 2 years to tell someone you can plug a router in or make a basic html page. It goes by your previous work history and also your own personal skill.

ya, i've been working with computers for years and I got involved in the programming side about 4 years ago. I've done web design jobs and smaller jobs for local people, but I want to get a real job involved in computers. How did everyone else begin getting involved in the business? Thats why I was wondering if this would be a good investment to get me started.

Better try to find some cheap distance learning programme.
You can earn AST degree from your home and learn a lot.
take a look at http://www.pennfostercollege.edu/cat-design.html

I wanted to write only ''yes'',
but , by this forum rules the minimum number of characters for answer is 10, that is why I wrote (need 10 chars ........), sorry for that.
I am not American and I don't know your school system, you should call them and ask if you have any question.

There are 4 semesters for ast degree.

A diploma is nothing more than a paper agreeing you succeed some test.
Doesn't mean you trully understand how things work in a real environnement.
To me you don't need any certification to install / support any OS / program.
