Can MX record be an IP?
Dear all,
Can MX record be an IP instead of a hostname?

I don't think so..
Just make an A record like mail01(.domain.com), and the MX record as mail01

Yes you can
Just point the MX record to an A record
We do it a lot and we don't encounter any issues.
I think mark s has mentioned the same?
Good luck

Right. But the answer to his question is plainly "No"; I simply gave the best alternative.

Pointing the MX record to an A record will work, I agree with this but some ISPs will not forward mail to mail servers which have an IP address in the MX record’s data field instead of the required hostname such as mail.domainname.com
FYI: dyndns.org NOW prevents putting an IP address into the MX record under any circumstances.Live Your DreamZ

The MX record can be an IP Address, but it should not be.
As besty has mentioned, and our client has actually faced this issue, because most of the MailServers does not send messages to the domains which have an IP for the MX record.Muhammad Waseem
