My business is about doing the video conference and my customers are mainly in Taiwan, Hongkong, China, and Korea. Now, I want to have a dedicated server but I don't know where to locate. Some of my friends suggest me to locate this server in Asia but others suggest me to locate the server in US(With the same condition, Asian server is much expensive than the server in US but I don't know about the bandwidth quality in US for me to do business in Asia. ). May somebody help me for choosing the location and the server provider?
If you're doing a video conference you want to be on quality bandwidth with the lowest latency to your other contacts. I would have to say your best bet would probably be a server in one of the countrys you just mentioned.
I plan to use a P to P video conference software to solve the my big bandwidth demand. Although this will decrease my bandwidth demand, I still need my customers to login my website first and active the video conference software. By doing this P to P method, do I still need to put my dedicate server in Asia or I can locate my server in US? Your suggestion or opinion is highly appreciated.
I would recommend puting the service in Asia for the best performance...as you'll save 200ms in latency probably. If it is unaffordable, then I would go with something on the west coast of the US, which utilizes as much NTT/Verio, Flag Telecom, Reach, BTN/PCCW, & Global Crossing bandwidth as possible.
my friends got some chinese server to put questionable content on and when they got it the ip was already blacklisted for their convience lol.
Id go with japanese or korean. I hear the entire country there has killer bandwidth, like the average user on 10mbit.
Thanks for your atention. Due to my P to P video conferencing business model, I do think I need a big bandwidth for my dedicated server. Except the expense and quality for the bandwidth, I also concern about the political issue. My friend told me that some IPs in Taiwan and Hong Kong are blocked by China; however, my customers are located in China, Hongkong, and Taiwan. Does anybody have solutions for this issue? My demand for the dedicated server is P4 2.3G or 3G, RAM 1~2G, OS Window 2003 Web, 500GB bandwidth, full management.
i dont think china will block hong kong ip, unless they host gambling web site, but i know they do block taiwan ip, 500g bandwidth is not much actually, but since it is streaming, you should not concern much about bandwidth but lag speed
You should try multacom (multacom.com), they have a very good connection to asia.
They seem to get a lot of asian clients and have focused a lot of effort in their network connectivity to asia. They also peer with a lot of asian providers directly.
There aren't many of Managed hosting companies out there in the Asia and the level of service is vary for each company, I'd suggest to look into their SLA before signing up.
Sounds like Hong Kong is your best choice, because China does not block Hong Kong's IP unless you're hosting pornography or gambling websites, China does not have direct connection to Taiwan, while Hong Kong has direct connection inbetween.
