Need 1u of colocation space in NYC, any recomendations?
I'm looking for a colocation provider that rents single units of rackspace in NYC. Looking for a basic:
1u of space
95% 1mbps (burstable to 10 or 100mbps)
Looking to pay $200 or less / month.
I've looked at nyi.net, they seem a little pricey; also checked with internetnyc.com, too difficult to get a hold of.
There are a ton of colocation providers out there with websites that say they offer colocation all over the place (ie. colocation.com, netfire) like at 111 8th ave and 25 broadway but then when you call them they tell you their datacenters are in NJ or Dallas (cheap places, with a lot less fibre and redundancy than nyc). I'd work with L3 but not quite ready to lease a whole rack.
Any advice is appreciated!

www.crnc.net
www.pilosoft.com
keep in mind most places have specials that they don't post on the website.
Always call sales to get more details for such a small commit.

It's important that there's someone on the other end of the phone 24/7, not just a voicemail if possible. I think it's difficult to tell whether some of these are one man operations or big companies.

I don't know about Toqen.com. There's no phone # or address that I can find on the webpage. In fact the webpage looks like a flash template that someone threw together in 10 minutes.

www_dot_crnc_dot_com looks pretty good.
I also found www_dot_voxrox_dot_com (aka www_dot_voxel_dot_net) who are currently shaping up to be my favorite choice at the moment. They always have someone to answer the phone when you call (not a voicemail). Excellent ping times, peered to both the Broadway Telehouse (NYI) and the largest peering exchange in the country NYCC1 (Level3). Remote reboot standard and a huge amount of monthly bw for a bargin price.

Voxrox does not do colocation. They are a dedicated server company.
The parent company Voxel Dot Net; does do colocation. I suggest you reach out to smachiz ^at^ voxel.net for a quote.
Good luck.

Toqen gets my vote a million times.
Francis is a great guy, very responsive at any time, and every inquiry I've sent has gotten an immediate response. They use Level3 bandwidth + a variety of others as well.
If you want to branch out to NJ, however, Choopa gets a hand as well.

I think voxel dot net is basically the same as voxrox, I called both parts of the company and seems they offer sudo collocation, you can colocate but you must purchase your hardware through voxel, so even their "colocation" is essentially a deticated server deal, but they will offer customer access to the datacenter 24/7 by appointment.
The part of their webpage regarding colocation on voxel dot net is currently incomplete. In any case their sudo colocation looks like a great deal.

Are you sure? Last time I checked, Voxel did not require you to purchase hardware from them to co-locate it. We have used their co-location in the past, and it's an excellent value. The serial console and remote reboot ports which they provide make management very easy.
