17,000 account hosting company for sale??

I noticed this on ebay (ends in about 6 hours). http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=1738097331

Am I missing something?? It appears all the accounts are free hosting. Why is the current bid $30,000.00? Mind you, it's a "private auction", and the majority of the bidding seemed to be on the first day, so I don't know if there's anything fishy going on.

Where's the appeal? Or am I just not able to see it?

lol 30k for a free company. Buy a couple dedicated servers, offer free hosting, and you will have 17,000 sites in hardly any time.

I would assume that the appeal is for banner advertising on the free sites. I don't think I would want to be the one trying to make a living and recoup llosses primarily just from ad banners.

Taken from ebay auction "http://www.pSend.com is a leader in both free and paid web hosting. "

So it doesn't look like it is all free hosting; but more than likely 95-98% free hosting.

Believe it or not about 1-2 years ago this company contacted me to see If I wanted to invest in them. I probably would have if I had money to invest in them at that time.

Damn, I could have had a piece of that 30 grand.

    looks fishy

you would have to pay me to take that on . I look at it like this , if it were so great , it wouldnt be on auction

  12. #12
    Agree.

If adding advertisements is so easy that he has time to site back and collect the money, which is enought to pay 2, 3, or even 4 people full-time, why isn't he?

Well, the goodnews for him is that someone is dumb enough to fork over $30k on it. I bet his mortage company's gonna be a bit mad when they find out what 'home improvement' meant. (17k customers moving to the closet with gdual 56k's)

Since you insist... I bought a supposed "ISP company" from them after researching it for 1 1/2 months, let just say they clear their tracks quite nicely and at the time it seemed to be a legit operation...

Well what can I say...another victim of fraud..after taking my money they cleared up shop.... (I am still trying to get the money back) - but i cannot find the guy that sold me the business, even though I have given the authorities the contact info for domaindistributor.com ( or their new scam business psend.com)

Just as a note: If you dont want to get screwed remember the name domaindistributor, psend, voth technologies, or whatever they call themselves now....

You should report this information to ebay if you have facts so they might prevent substancial problems.

Well, my problem is that since the case is not cleared with me yet, I have no proof to show ebay if they come back to me and say "how do you know this"... Believe me as soon as I have everything in writing and my evidence is substantial I will make it known all over the internet, until then I do not want to be accused of defamtion...

Its just a shame to sit and watch someone have that much money potencially thrown away. Somebody is really eager about this venture and to me personally i would be very disappointed...

On the otherhand, i wouldnt just hand over the money....

17,000 sites [what % are active/inactive??] on servers that cost only "$1000.00/mth". Sounds like 4 or 5 overloaded boxes.

You'd think he'd be displaying some figures of income. I mean when you buy a business, you're really buying the cashflow of that business and other assets. What's the monthly profit?? Those are the numbers you'd really need to be requiring before parting with your hard earned $$$.

But, I'd sure hate to be providing tech support to all thems sites.

Typically you dont provide much support to free users. As far as what % is active, you'd be surprised. I have been in the free hosting business for 4 years, and we dont have as many accounts as you'd think. That's due to the fact that we actually have a system that kills off unused accounts. Geocities sold for $4.6 billion, and you can only wonder how many of those sites were legit, decent, used accounts. 50% maybe, and I'd say that's pushing it. It's easy to get bloated numbers when you dont kill off unused accounts. Big majority of free signups are from warez and porn masters, so you kill all those off, and your numbers do a drastic drop. Since we also now have a fairly automatic detection and removal of warez, then our number of members stay lower than that of many other free hosts....though, it's far more than 17,000. $30,000. I should put ours on Ebay

At that rate, we should get about $1,000,000

Well being an ex freewebhoster(for a tad over a year), I can tell you right now whoever is buying it for that much is better off throwing their money in a endless well. As stated before im sure a large number of those are not active, or a large number are warez/porn. lets play the numbers here.

    17,000

lets say 100 hits a month a client(more or less unrealistic, but im sure there are some members that get a lot)

    1,700,000

ok, now about 2 years ago or so, mabey a little long, that many hits a month would get you about a 1cpm, so 1700 a month. then you got 2.5 years just to get your money back, and thats with NO overhead. Nowawadays, its more like 10 cent cpm, so you are looking at about 200 a month. Now unless you have exelent programming knowlage along with knowing webservers, mail servers, etc inside and out, you are going to be spending 50 percent of your time looking for spam/cc fraud/warez/porn all day long.

In the end, you are going to loose about 32000 dollars, and give yourself so many headaches you will wish you were dead.

    Happy bidding

Rackshack isnt efficient enough to host a good sized free host. They wont special build machines for you , they dont let you colo....and from what I see, they only have single cpu machines. Basically the equivelent of a home pc. I would put some servers there if talking to them wasnt like trying to break thru the Golden Gate Bridge with a plastic hammer.

Let's talk bottom line figures here. I couldn't give a rip at how many "clients" they have. Do they make money??
