Hi. I've recently had all sorts of problems with my VPS, the latest being e-mail mysteriously vanishing from my queue before I grab it with POP.
Basically I'd like to migrate to a dedicated server with quite a bit of hand-holding, competent tech support that can investigate and FIGURE OUT what the heck happened when something went wrong. I know enough about Unix to get around, but unfortunately not enough to diagnose bizarre problems like this.
Could anyone recommend some cheap (my budget is like $100 here) dedicated server solutions that have such excellent tech support? I'd also want it to be 24/7.
Basically similar to Rackspace, but ... well... cheaper.
$100 isn't too far off... ($120 is certainly doable with cpanel or plesk).
As an example:
$65/mo Server from LayeredTech
$30/mo Server management (Several different companies to choose from)
Or find a reseller who will do it for that price.
Your not going to get 10 minute response 24/7 for that price. But it'd be monitored/managed 24/7.
Another option. You could share a server with one or two other clients, get a more powerful server/more ram and use 1/2 the resources (without the overhead of VPS).
Have you considered Semi-dedicated Hosting? 4 - 8 accounts per server. Less overhead than VPS, better performance for the price. DopeDomains.com - 15,000 New Domains a day. indexed by Pagerank, backlinks, Hits, and Length.
Doesn't sound like he needs fully managed, especially with that budget requirement, but just very competant techs will to lend him a hand one in awhile with a basic managed service....
Yeah, exactly. Couldn't have put it better myself. One thing I would add - I would definitely give preference to any service that has 24/7 LIVE support from actual techs who know what they're doing and can fix problems, and actually tell me what they did. Ticket systems tend to infuriate me.
