    FTP question

I want to transfer some files from a backup server. Because some files have root owner too, the uid of the account is 0.
In this case I cannot give shell access to the client.
I tried to give him read-only ftp access. Using the command line ftp client, the files are transferred from the backup with new owner and permissions.

    My question is:
Is there a way to force ftp client to preserve owner, permissions, time while transferring from the remote machine?

    Thank you for your time.
