This should post in Co-Location forum. However, I think that price is so expensive.

that price for a dual 2.0ghz xeon...mental. My new server is a quad, dual core xeon totalling 16ghz power, cost me £15,500 odd. I would say $3000 odd for that one is a bit too much

Not spectacular, not terrible pricing either--you should be able to bargain a little on that price. Who is building it/warranty?

Which Xeon? With the new woodcrest, you can no longer compare raw GHz.

And yes, the woodcrest is dual core.

Dual Woodcrest 5130, SCSI hotswap, 2x 146GB Seagate SCSI drives, 4GB RAM for $3545 sounds pretty good to me. Where are you other guys finding that config for $1000 less? If you can find me that config for $2500 I'll buy 20 of 'em right now... You MIGHT be able to find it for a little less, but that seems like a fair price to me.

Then danserv, how is getting a box with 1/2 the power for less than 1/5 the price "mental"?

Roughly about $3100 at Dell at this moment (after $1200 off). Albeit, I can only configure 4x1GB for the memory and only 2 drives (need to go to SAS 2.5 inch for 4 drives, but unfortunately, not 146 GB in SAS 2.5 inch). This is including DRAC, RAILS, and 3 years hardware/labor support.

chuckle ... not to mention, I bet that's more than 1/2 the power considering it's Woodcrest

Don't forget to convert British Pounds to US Dollars. 15,500GBP = $29,532.84USD.

Looks like a much better deal now

As others have mentioned, it boils down to the warranty. It's certainly a ball-park price, not the lowest but not the highest either.

    Regards,

a woodcrest 5130 (2x2GHz) has similar performance and horsepower to a dual 3GHz Xeon (Irwindale etc), if not even more than that
