I only have $300 to spend and need to upgrade my server. I already have 256Mb pc100 memory, 6Gb ide AHA66 harddrive, floppy, cd-rom and 3com 10/100 nic.

What I need is a Redhat linux compatible motherboard with graphics, cpu and atx case... I want to utilize my old old parts above.
What motherboard and cpu should I go for to get the most compatible with my parts and linux (redhat).

Oh well, no advice, I guess this is the wrong place for hardware advice anyway!

The most important thing in a web server is the memory.
I can't stress this enough.
If I had to choose, I'd upgrade the memory.

Once Apache starts hitting that swap.. it's all over

Cheers,

True about the memory but the man needs a mobo to use with the memory! I'm very happy with the abit RAID series. I have the kt7a-raid and, while it was a little flakey at first, has been nothing short of rock solid. You can find them online at pricewatch at good price. Costs a bit more but WELL worth it IMHO. You might do well getting a cheap athlon, e.g. a 1.4 ghz and you will FLY. Together, it should cost under $300 easily...
