Need server with remote reboot, OS install

I am searching for a provider offering dedicated servers with remote hardware reset and be able to re-install the operating system whenever I want. My budget would be ~70 USD. I will mainly use this server for testing purposes only. I am currently with EasySpeedy but their hardware reset and install OS don't seem to work lately, that is why I am starting to search for other alternatives.

thx!

You seem to be expecting quite a bit for $70 - you may want to consider raising your budget a bit. If you want operating system reloads "whenever you want," you'll probably need to pay something a bit higher.

Most providers can reinstall the OS on a server for a minimal fee ($50 or $25), and providers without remote reboot can manually reboot a server sometimes just as quickly. It's also nice to have a provider who will be on call to watch the console as the server boots up, to see if it errors on anything.

For your price, I would go with LayeredTech, as they are a very good budget provider and can reload the OS for $50. They don't have remote reboot, but there have been rumors they are working on a device and whenever I have had to do a reboot it has been done quickly.

For a provider with automated OS reloads (that are free) and remote reboot, I would reccomend Softlayer. Of course you will pay for these additional features, which is why you should think to yourself "do I really need this, do I really need that?". Your first server can't be everything you want, just like your first car can't be your brand new dream car.

Probably, but not necessarily.

If you are going to use the server as a testing server with that limited budget, you might as well put a virtual machine on your home computer with whatever OS you like.

I haven't seen that kind of service for that kind of money

I have not been able to find anyone else than easyspeedy.com with remote reboots and OS reloads at that price. My Easyspeedy server has been rock solid, so I have not used the remote reboot recently. But it worked flawlesly when I tested it after receiving the server.
I know they had (or have) a problem if you turn off your server with the poweroff og shutdown command, but they should be working on a solution. (but since you are not paying the electrical bill :-) you probably do not have to turn off your server)

Have you tried contacting the support with your issue?

I think if you'd run a search against the Dedicated and Colo Hosting forum for "automated OS reload" you'll find a few companies providing this service, including at least 1 provider within the price range of the OP.

Of course, this was also discussed just a day or two ago in this thread.

1and1 , though their service is horrible, and price is a little bit above yours, has what you want.

ev1servers also has those abilities, and their price is a bit higher than what you want.

I think softlayer is developing this os reload ability, but doesnt have it yet. Not sure if that is a correct statement, just somethign I heard.

I believe Softlayer does have the automated OS Reload ability actually.

i already said it in the second post

15minuteservers.com offers this and much more.. their control panel is probably better than 90% of the hosts here. you can do instant os reloads for $5, manage reverse dns on the fly, view bandwidth graphs, etc. the only CP better than them is softlayer, which starts at $150 and is out of his budget range

easyspeedy's CP offers all the features you mention and the OS reloads are free. Have you tried easyspeedy's CP or even seen screendumps from it?

I am not claiming easyspeedy has the best CP in the world. I just said that I have not been able to find hosts with as low prices and a CP like easyspeedy's. 15minuteservers.com may be close, but if the OS reload is automated why then charge 5$ for it?

i have no idea why theres a $5 charge, perhaps you should email their sales department? it's probably to make more money. but they are probably the cheapest he will find for ~$70/month that offers a good control panel and backed by the NAC network, one of the best on the east coast.
