I hate these guys... can someone recommend a dedicated provider?

I woke up this morning at 2:30 (new baby) and everything was fine. All my sites were online and no trouble. At about 5AM the mysql crashed bringing down my db driven sites. Then I couldn't login to the server. Then the whole thing died. Now they (aplus.net) tells me it will be $150 to get my data restored.

I know I know... I should have been backing up... how many times do I need to learn this? LOL

Anyway... this wasn't the first sign of trouble and I've been looking for a new host. I've been looking into managed too but it seems so expensive.

Does anyone here have any good recommendations for quality dedicated providers? This is my first post here so if it is against forum policy or something to mention hosts feel free to PM me.

Thanks!
Michael

Are you after managed servers or unmanaged?

Until now I've never even considered managed but I'm starting to think it might come in handy to have the host actually take some responsibility. I'm assuming the main benefit is that managed keeps the box(es) online, updated, backed-up secure and healthy, which gives the webmaster time to focus on the websites. So the simple answer is I'm considering both. I found one the other day that says they include some managed services (like keeping the server up) for the price of a dedicated box, but I'm not sure if this is just a sales pitch.

My websites are all php and some with mysql. I develop on a mac but have een hosting on linux.

I recommend you to buy server from server4sale.com that is located at LayeredTech. They will fully managed your server with a great price.

Interesting. I was just looking at LT (see I figured out the acronym and everything) and they seem very good. Why go through server4sale? why not just go through LT?

Do a little search for aplus.net on this forum. Enjoy the findings.

Go with softlayer.net, they now do advanced help for 3 bucks per isssue plus if thats not good enough find a company like rack911.com to help you.

Also another solution might be a VPS if you don't need a full dedicated server.

yes. if you want a unmanaged server at budget pricing you should need to know some server management knowledge if not go with a managed server or hire a server admin to do it for you. and it can save up alot of trouble.

Note: Some provided stated unmanaged but at time their will go all they can to help you solve your problem if you find the right provider :-)

LT unmanaged your server. Server4Sale is reselling servers for LT, fully managed your server, and the price is reasonable !
If you don't need management, just go with LT.

One things that you should provide us is your budget. What is your budget for unmanaged, and what is your budget for managed?

if you want cpanel based server i would recommend you this:

server from: layeredtech or softlayer
managment from: platinumservermanagement

that'll be something that you'll not be worried about your or your clients websites.

Thank You!

I wish I had found this forum months ago. I hooked up with server4sale and will happily pay the $50 a month for the full managed services. They are getting the LT box setup now. For about $240/mo I get:

FULL Management - LT - Intel Dual Xeon 2.8 / 250GB hdd / 2GB ram / 2500GB bandwidth / CentOS 4.x / Plesk with 100 Domain Powerpack (addon) / 10Mbit port / IDE-SCSI.

100GB backup is included in the full management. I got plesk because I like to be able to do basic stuff without having to remember any command line... and by paying them to keep it clean and stable I figure if anything needs to be done they are there for it.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! ...and goodbye aplus.net (as soon as they recover my data, heh)

Yep. I can vouch for the truth in that statement.

If you think LT is something then you might like SL too - someone tell him what SL is. (watch how popular these guys are). I just bought the new Dempsey DCDP 3.0 w/HT (that's technically 6 processors on WHM for all newbies) and can't wait for it to be provisioned.

and btw, I too vouch for Server4Sale. Majeed is simply amazing when it comes to customer support.
