I use 3d FTP not saying its the best... But its an FTP program.... No problems at all. any file transfer protocol client is better than none in my opinion

I used to use Smart FTP but now FileZilla is the go.

FTP is meant to be simple so really anything that transfers files will do. Filezilla is free so why not? (I hate shareware)

On my PC I used BulletProof FTP but I haven't had any real need for using it for a while since I switched to using my Mac full time. On the Mac I use Cyberduck (free is good!), although I hear Transmit is also great.

    Hi,

FileZilla is always more stable. You can download and upload large files with it if you have a DSL connection without problem. The cute FTP version you can always download from the company website but that is a trial version. You need to buy that version.

The CuteFTP version which I have posted in my earlier post here is a Free version of the software which was released a few years ago.

You can read the Installation Agreement which you get when you install it.

    1. The SOFTWARE is licensed, not sold.

    2. GRANT OF LICENSE.

    (a) Evaluation Copy. You may use the SOFTWARE without charge on an evaluation basis for thirty (30) days from the day that you install the SOFTWARE. You must pay the license fee and register you copy to continue to use the SOFTWARE after the thirty (30) days. If you continue to use the SOFTWARE after the thirty (30) days without paying the license fee you will be using the SOFTWARE on an unlicensed basis, and GlobalSCAPE may place advertisements in the SOFTWARE and keep statistics regarding your use of the SOFTWARE (e.g., the average sessions per user, average session time, daily unique users, daily ad displays, and click-through). GlobalSCAPE will not monitor the content of your use (e.g., files used, sites selected). Registration disables banner ads, and GlobalSCAPE will not keep usage statistics on licensed SOFTWARE.

    (b) Redistribution of Evaluation Copy. If you are using SOFTWARE on an evaluation basis you may make copies of the evaluation SOFTWARE as you wish; give exact copies of the original evaluation SOFTWARE to anyone; and distribute the evaluation SOFTWARE in its unmodified form via electronic means (Internet, BBS's, Shareware distribution libraries, CD-ROMs, etc.). You may not charge any fee for the copy or use of the evaluation SOFTWARE itself, but you may charge a distribution fee that is reasonably related to any cost you incur distributing the evaluation SOFTWARE (e.g. packaging). You must not represent in any way that you are selling the SOFTWARE itself. Your distribution of the evaluation SOFTWARE will not entitle you to any compensation from GlobalSCAPE. You must distribute a copy of this EULA with any copy of the SOFTWARE and anyone to whom you distribute the SOFTWARE is subject to this EULA.

They also declare that it is free to electronically distribute the Evaluation copy of the CuteFTP 3.6 version. T

his version only shows advertisemts after 30 days and becomes a Ad-Ware but completely works fine for the rest of life without buying it.

I hope if you are looking for CuteFTP you need not buy it but can use the rare Free version .

    Hello,

Just one word about FileZilla .. That is the best FTP software right now.
But it has a problem with the interface .. it does not remember the Last open window / pan size status and evey time you start the FTP frogramm you have to drag the windows Pans to suit your own screen adjustments.

Once you close the FTP again it forgets the open window adjustments and opens in a crumbled fashion. If you are a freequent FTP user it irrates you to every time going to set up the local and remote Windows size within the FileZilla FTP. There are some other FTP pogrammes like CoreFTP which is another very good tool and it gladly remembers the open windows size the next time you open it.

I posted this issue on the Portable FileZilla FTP forum and it is still unreplied. Actually the portable version is based on the code of the regular FileZill which has the problem built in..

You can get the CuteFTP free version here. It only shows Advertisements after 30 days and works fine without serial number or registration

I used CuteFTP before, slow open, delete folder two-time.
I'm using FileZilla, fast open, delete folder one-time.

    Go FileZilla!

It is just GR8 using Portable Filezilla . . you can get filezilla and other poratble tools from:

    http://www.trustmeher.net/freeware/cute.htm
    http://portableapps.com/apps/interne...zilla_portable

Does not require installation and does not save your login and password in the System. Just remove or copy the directory which you extracted to run the programm on any CD or USB Pen drive and login to your sites from there.

I don't think the registered version of SmartFTP is any different. I believe that corporate users have to register. I don't think they enforce this in any way. You have to click on an OK nag screen when you load it, that's all.

The only thing I don't like about Smart FTP and most FTP programs in general - I wish they were a little more verbose about what they are doing.

Been using Smart FTP for about 5 years now and have no complaints.

    I use FileZilla myself.

After reading through this thread though, there are a couple of others I would like to try.

The big thing that I like about filezilla is that you don't have to really install it at all. I can just copy the directory to any computer I want, or a flash drive and it is ready to go with all my current settings.

    Filezilla here.

Nobody is saying another two neat features of FileZilla:
    - You can configure how many files upload/download at the same time (threads).
    - You can limit upload/download transfer speed (i.e. to avoid smashing your office DSL line)

    Simple and cool.
