Completely depends on datacenter & support level. I've seen this kind of configs in the $600 range also....So its all about the extra's

Thanks Xandrios! What do you mean by "datacenter"? What factors should I consider there? How can I tell what kind of datacenter I have? Sorry I'm not really very familiar with these matters...
Server is fully-managed, support is just ok, not great, but not horrible either. Reactive rather than proactive.

Datacenter is the company where this server is going to be hosted. So it's likely your provider. The specs are nice, but I think it is quite possibly overpriced. The setup fee is quite high. If the datacenter is very high end and the support is brilliant then price could be a bargain. To know which of these it is, you need to specify which company you're getting the server from.

It seems on the high side unless you are very happy with the data center & support level.
Nerver hurts to ask to have the set up fee dropped.

Are we talking about the base spec of the server as far as setup price goes? Or are we talking about the monthly price.
If talking monthly price I think that would definitely be around the appropriate ballpark with a server of the above spec and the amount of bandwidth given provided it is quality bandwidth and the provider gives ample support service.

That kind of price is outrageous. I've never seen such a price for 20mbit Unmetered even if its a dedicated port. There must be a ton of features if thats the price. What hosting company is this from?

Thanks for all the response. Data center apparently wolud be the Orange County Datacenter in California. Anyone heard of it? Is it a good one?
It'll be a colocation arrangement between my Florida-based webhost and their California partner, apparently because bandwidth rates in California are cheaper, and my site uses up a lof of bandwidth, around 3000gb a month. So they're suggesting to move me to this new arrangement, although it will be a lot more costly (nearly twice the amount) than what I'm currently paying them.
Again, server is fully-managed, support is ok, not great, not horrible either. More reactive than proactive. There have been some recurring server and network problems and performance issues. Some occasional downtime, sometimes lasting for hours. The people there are nice and helpful enough though.
I don't know much about the extras or other features except for the specs I've mentioned, and the fact that it is a fully-managed server. How can I tell if it's "quality bandwidth"?
I asked if the $650 setup fee can be waived, but they said they can't drop it.
So is it a good deal, or can I find much better deals elsewhere? Thanks again.

BAD move...... BW rates cheaper there??? I doubted it... Quality bandwidth is what carriers there will be. Overall i dont see this as good deal. Try getting the quote for same specs from other companies and see how much discount you can get.

Try the planet. ( http://www.totalcontrolservers.com/p...A83F6E0C010024 ) That is a good datacenter, with a good industry repuration. The price at that datacenter came to just around 800 for a spec like yours. No setup. As your budget was higher before, I would seriously recommend getting a smaller box as well to do backups on. If you need software support - you would need a 3rd party management - though from what I recall of Planet.
Use the HOSTQUOTE system at the top of the page and put in your requirements and just see the kind of offers come in.

Thanks server4sale and Imzan for the suggestions. What are the good 3rd-party server management companies? And would that be better than getting an in-house fully-managed server (actually managed by the webhosting company) ?Thanks again.

Depends on the kind of support you need. What are you using the server for currently ? What operating system ? What sort of services do you expect from the company doing the management ? All those need to be evaluated a little bit.
EDITED TO ADD :
Sometimes inhouse is better than elsewhere. Things like reboots can be faster. Things like data recovery - if the drives fail - can be faster. However, those aren't the reason you would be hiring another company to look after your assets. They more would be the people, the service and the response. You do need to pay extra for good level of service. However, as you said, you company was going to charge you quite a bit, if you aren't happy or they can't keep you happy they don't likely deserve your business.

Are the "carriers" the likes of Time Warner Telecom, PacBell/SBC, etc? Or is it something else? Also, how can I tell what are the good carriers?
