Question Purpose of the "New Members" section?

What's the purpose of this section of the forum if the vast majority of its messages get no reply... It's a harsh way of welcoming new comers! *puzzled*

No idea, I don't think the mods come in here either
This thread seems to be in the wrong section though heh.

I wanted it to be in this section... This way, newcomers will see that at least somebody cares!

If a mod could move this thread to the right section! Thanks.

You going to have to report your own thread probably, this forum is pretty much invisible I bet

Mods do come in here, but there isn't usually much to moderate. This forum was created as a way for new members to "get their feet wet" and say hi. Previously, they were doing so in the lounge, and nearly every one was reported for "spamming". So, even though they don't get a large response in here, at least they're not being reported or labelled spammers....making this a somewhat better greeting, I think.

Having browsed a few New Member/Introduction categories at a few forums, the results are pretty much the same all over

We should assign a team to welcome the newcomers

I agree. And they do not have to be moderators. Moderators are busy with much more important things to do: Cleaning!

Seems like a Welcoming Hassle Trauma to moderators.

I would be glad to be part of the WTF team (Welcoming Task Force"). However, if I had an "unofficial" title tag, it would be nice for newcomers. But honestly, I'm afraid to get bored after a couple of "Hi [Name], Welcome to WHT!" It should be a team effort.

Are we allowed to copy and paste the same message, for example "Welcome to WHT ," in every thread in the Welcome forum?

Also, in my opinion, the posts in the welcome forum should be counted for members' post count, as it confuses new members. They post in the forum and still have a post count of 0. Instead signatures could be removed. (question for the admin: Do the posts in the welcome forum get added to the overall post count of the WHT?).

Most any welcome is probably going to be appreciated by the member, but a cut and paste rings kind of hollow and is normally discouraged 'round here (only so many ways to say welcome, though). As for post counts, they don't increment in here and that means they don't get added anywhere as a result of posting in this one.

Should there be a post count here?
I don't think that's a good choice. New members show up just to say hi, and if there were counts enabled, they would soon have enough to access special privileges like PMs and advertising without contributing to the forum in a meaningful way.
