ftp

Hi Everyone,

I had a question about allowing someone to test with ftp. They currently have satellite Internet service and they are having a hard time to upload files to their current ftp server. The business is a local real estate guide and they need to have a ftp in order to upload files to a server so their printer can download, etc.

I was just wondering if it would be safe and ok to setup a small "test" account for them to see if they can upload a few files, to see if it is their current setup or their ISP.

Thanks for any advice you all can give.

I think it would be fine so long as you are careful to monitor the ftp bandwidth usage, and content.

Ok, I have thought about limiting the space to only 11 megs. I think the content will be fine, it's for a real estate magazine and they would test it with one of their pages for the mag.

What are your concerns with regards to safety? Bandwidth abuse or access to directories they should not have authorization to reach?

If the issue is bandwidth, then what jmcallister says should be fine, but 11 megs might be on the small size if there are a lot of images involved.

Just for testing Purpose it can be done, no problem in this.

If they are able to connect server and are facing problem while transfering the files, then probably he need to swtich between the active to passive mode or viceversa.

It will mainly be one file to test, which will be around 10 megs tops. The client is wanting to test to see if Internet is still slow when uses another ftp than his current setup. He's on Sat. Internet.

I am just wondering if it was ok to do safe to allow a user to test ftp.
