Refurbished laptops, yes or no?

I really would like to get a Sony VAIO laptop but they're so expensive, so I'm pondering on getting a refurbished one instead.

I dunno, they look pretty? I'm not too familar with any other brands except for Sony and Dell. (and when I say familar, I mean the brands I've used before.) I'm not quite happy with the Dell selections though. I also heard that HP, Compaq, and Toshiba weren't too good but then again, that was a few years ago.

I have never had much luck with sony in general but I have never had a sony laptop.

I have an hp laptop and I love it. I have to say that I love their support and I have found that all the hardware in my system works well with linux.

Just my two cents.

For some reason, I see sony to kind of be the apple of PCs (though Apple Computing is now using intel hardware too), as a lot of the time, it's accessories like to only work with other Sony products (i.e. card reader/TV/digital camera), etc.

I am pretty happy with my Acer laptop which I got for $500 at Circuit City.

What apple are you thinking of?

I have an imac and I have yet to find a device that I can attach to it and it not work.

I have one... but I spend most of my "computting" time on my high-end Dell Inspiron 6400 or on my Mac. I really regret having bought the Sony. They're "cute", but buggy!

Sony VAIO? Search Google and NotebookForums.com for reviews.

Why aren't you happy with Dell laptops?

Considering you can buy a brand new Dell Inspiron E1505 for $619, it offers the most bang for your buck. I'm typing this on my Dell Inspiron 700m which I've had for over 1 year and I use it almost every day. I bought it during the infamous $750 off $1499 coupon sale.

The thing with the Dell laptops is that I want a good graphics card, and the model that I'm more likely to buy is the E1405 and unfortunately, you can't upgrade the graphics card on that one. XPS M1210 (I think that's it) is rather pricey. I would like a laptop that's on the smaller/lighter end.

Honestly, I still haven't decided yet. I think to get the features that I want for my laptop, I'm going to have to increase my budget.

Thanks for that link!
