Hi, I don't know anything about vps and just purchased it at knownhost. I just moved my site over and initiated the dns change. I think my site will be running fine.

Is there anything I need to do in term of security or performance?

Hmm,Probaly not if your just hosting thats alright nothink techy stuff,do you know about shell?

You mean shell scripting? Not much what do you have in mind?

Also do the mails suppose to work automatically or I am suppose to do something? I also heard something can increase php by 50% somewhere....

Well.... I am just sick of shared hosting. Even though I don't even get 50 visitors a day, I want my site to load fine/fast when I visit myself. So, I got myself a VPS. $24 a month is something I am willing to put up with compared to slow loading site.

If everything goes to plan, my site should be up and running fine. But I don't know how to take care of it in term of security and performance. I haven't find much easy/useful tutorials anywhere yet.

Luckily for you KnownHost are semi-managed and good guys so they'll do pretty much everything you want them to do I'm sure if you ask nicely ;-)

We consider ourselves a semi-managed VPS company. We will apply Operating system and applications updates for standard applications such as PHP, MySQL, Apache, etc based upon your request. As well, we will help with 3rd party products you want to install aside from the applications we install upon delivery of your VPS. To request 3rd party application installation simple open a support ticket and provide detailed installation instructions.

Just read up on various SSH commands (it's easy with cPanel/WHM) but do not try any command that you are not sure of - it could have nasty results :-)

If you really get stuck you could always get a company such as PSM to manage it for you.
