    WHT IRC network

    Hello everyone,

I'm sure many users aren't aware that there is the WHT chat channel, and after looking at the index page, it's hardly advertised

There is the affiliate link once in a while but why isn't there a 'Chat now! thing in the area where Home // Profile // Search, etc is?

I also propose the following for the WHT chat:

    - Move to CGIIRC. Many people don't have java or hate using it. A CGIIRC based one is fully perl based, with a c (compiled) version to help with speed

An issue that used to happen with the webchat was that real IP's were never passed forward.

In UnrealIRCD 3.2.5 (latest, came out a few weeks ago) it introduces full support with cgiirc, so they are able to share information, putting the users real ip on a host

    CGI-IRC - http://cgiirc.sourceforge.net/
    Unreal - http://unrealircd.com

I concur with the above, only with the modification of using a real ircd, rather than unrealjunk

I'd love a change, for some reason -- the current IRC never works at my home. I've tried countless things to fix it, asked mods at one point and nothing works... sigh

The second I go to my friends place, who's network is nearly identical to mine, it works.

Speaking of the IRCd, I'd be more than happy to assist with the network if they changed things a bit

It isn't a very welcoming community at WHT-IRC, most of the users there are stubborn and not willing to help. I suggest that some nice users are invited to post there before anything else is improved or revamped.

I don't understand what you mean...that man that shouted obscenities at me and then packeted me for hours the other day was very friendly.

Have you ever seen some of the replies in the dedicated server section? WHT isn't a welcoming community in spots at times either

The channel admins do a good job of taking care of the trouble makers. Remember it's more for just chatting it up with people. With that being said, though, I'm sure that if there was enough users that people would be willing to make a #help channel

Perhaps its because you tend to annoy people on WHT?

An IRCd setup for one channel? Meh. Put it on a network people actually use and I'm sure you'd have a more willing crowd.

Get rid of overzealous channel ops that ban you for something simple as:

Guess I'll have to find you a sense of humour on ebay
and people might bother to actually participate. It's like a power trip for some of the guys on there.

The 1 or 2 times in the last 3 years I have stopped in the irc room I did notice people being unfriendly BUT do you want to know why they were unfriendly?

I'll tell you why.....BECAUSE IT'S NOT A TECH SUPPORT CHANNEL!

At least half of the people who stop in have a million and one questions about why their server was hacked or asking a billion and one questions about which forums is better "vB or IPB" . Now don't get me wrong, asking a question or two is fine but question after questions after question after question tends to piss anyone off and in return you receive unfriendly people.

There's actually more than one channel being used on the server.

There's wht-marketplace for people to advertise when someone comes in asking about hosting etc.

His point was that it could easily be done on a larger network that's already established

#1 reason you've been on WHT too long: you use forum emotes in the irc chat in the event it gets posted on the forums.
