    Dedicated Server Suggestions

Hi, I am in need of a dedicated server. I currently run 3 large websites 1 forum and 2 database driven websites that have a combined total of around 250 users online at all times. I am looking for something relativlely cheap $60-140 range. I am also looking for a 100mbit uplink and plenty of BW. I am currently averaging around 33-34gb per day. I don't know exactly how much CPU and Memory I am consuming due to the fact that I get no reports over at 1and1...

Any recommendations on what type of configuration would be right for me would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you are a host, offers will also not go un-noticed.

    Thanks.

In the offers forum check for Layered Tech offers, they're a great service and very cheap. One thing to keep in mind is the servers are 100% self-managed so make sure you know how to manage servers before you buy.

Thats not an issue, thanks for the tips. I am looking at 1-800-Hosting now. They have some pretty good deals on servers. I will also check out Layered Tech.

Hi,Looks like you are using up alot of bandwidth there daily so a managed unmetered solution would be ideal.Best of luck

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/request.php is a nice place to start.

Spending a few dollars more might be money well spent.

make sure you reasearch any company you decide on. The search function of WHT may be your best friend.

I am looking for un-managed. I checked out ServerMatrix, my friend has a server there (he got on when they were not that expensive). So far I am almost decided on 1-800-Hosting.

I am most likely going to go with Layertechs dual core 2.8ghz, 1gb of ram, 160gb hdd, and 1500gb transfer on a 100mbit uplink.

How does that look? I have heard that Dual Core is not really as powerful as one would think, and that it's only slightly faster then a single core HT processor... Can anyone chime in please?

    Thanks

Wow thats a crazy deal. Beware though, you get what you pay for. Thats why I prefer my datcenter at rackmounted.com For the personal support, network performance, and reliabilty I dont care to pay extra. Even though they have what I think is some of the best prices around. Plus they allow you to do what you want with your server as long as its legal. things like IRC, teamspeak, eggdrops, and other binary processes most datacenters forbid because they are either ignorant about them or too scared.
Off subject though, I dont see why most servers dont allow irc. Its not irc and eggdrops on servers thats the problem its infected personal computers.

    Good luck

A few of my buddies have dedicated dual xeon gaming box's at Layertech. They host at Databank in D.C and have another datacenter that I can't remember in D.C as well. I have not heard anything bad about them. I think I got a good deal, and I am very happy. They just called to confirm the order. I even managed to get a 36gb 15,000 RPM Scsi drive thrown in free of charge.

It was yes, but I had to call in and make sure it was a 15k. He said most of their drives are 10k, but I requested a 15k and he said it was not a problem. I got a good deal, can't wait till it's ready!
