    Laptop gone wild

Time was a laptop was built for portability and battery life. Smaller was better, light even more so. Somewhere in all this, they started trying to outdo the "next guy", and this behemoth was born.

$3500, 20+" screen...8 speakers and subwoofer, huge storage, etc.
Wonder if it comes with a hand truck for carrying it?

Interesting, expensive though, I'd much rather stick $2000 in my pocket and buy an Optiplex then glue it all together.

I saw this the other day when browsing for server specs and a new PC... I actually quite like the design of it - its quite a fairly decent PC for gaming, multimedia etc I actually quite like it.

But it's a laptop at heart I guess. This machine is nuts when you think about the fact that it's billed as a laptop

that's freakin nuts..trying to improve on the basic laptop is a good idea but i think dell went overboard with this..people are wanting small and sleek in their products (along with more performance)..this wont last long at all..

It's more of a mobile compact desktop unit than a laptop.

For the very rich people I suppose (at least for now)
It looks nice, but if I want a laptop, I buy a laptop, and not a mix between a desktop and a laptop.

Wow. That's nuts. I will say this, I love that flash animation they use. The smoke behind is pretty cool. Might have to get "inspired" in the future and try something like that. Very nice.

It's not so bad when it's folded up. Check out the Design->Exterior part.

I just picked up a 17" laptop (25W 2.2ghz amd64 turion, 2GB DDR400, 120GB IDE drive, CDRW/DVDRW) for around $1500, its got power efficiency (~2.5 - 3.5 hours of realistic runtime depending on the task), a beautiful bright screen, 4 speakers, and a "subwoofer" (ok, so how is a 2" speaker a subwoofer? You've got me!), and weighs in at around 7.1 pounds.

To me this seems like a great deal, sure its a bit bigger then most (due to the 17" widescreen display), but the last laptop I owned (Pentium 133, 16mb ram, and a 1GB hdd) weighed in about the same.

I'd have to vote this into the "portalble desktop" category though, as I cant picture anyone sitting on a bus and using that for example.
