postgres

Trying to upgrade via this link (fresh install):
http://kb.linuxnetworkcare.com/node/21

root@server [~]# rpm -Uvh postgresql-python-8.1.4-3PGDG.i686.rpm
warning: postgresql-python-8.1.4-3PGDG.i686.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 748f7d0e
error: Failed dependencies:
mx is needed by postgresql-python-8.1.4-3PGDG.i686
Suggested resolutions:
/home/buildcentos/CENTOS/en/4.0/i386/CentOS/RPMS/mx-2.0.5-3.i386.rpm

I tried / downloaded that from (mx-2.0.5-3.src.rpm RHE4)
http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=mx

What am I doing wrong?

What OS are you using? May be you can use yum to install it.

Ok here is the issue

Requested by client:
createlang -U [postgres superuser name] plpgsql erealms_ethereal

I did;
su postgres -
bash-3.00$ createlang -U postgres plpgsql user_dbname
could not change directory to "/root"
createlang: could not connect to database user_dbname: could not connect to server: No such file or directory
Is the server running locally and accepting
connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"?

I just did a fresh install of postgresql 8 and ran install config, change password in whm.

What did I do wrong exactly?

bash-3.00$ psql -l
could not change directory to "/root"
psql: could not connect to server: No such file or directory
Is the server running locally and accepting
connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"?

postgresql has failed, please contact the sysadmin (result was "postmaster is not running").

su postgres -
bash-3.00$ initdb -D data
could not change directory to "/root"
The files belonging to this database system will be owned by user "postgres".
This user must also own the server process.

The database cluster will be initialized with locale en_US.UTF-8.
The default database encoding has accordingly been set to UTF8.

creating directory data ... initdb: could not create directory "data": Permission denied
