Need VPS host - Reliable and fast with awesome service (regardless of cost)
Hi
I currently have a dodgy reseller account with hostgator to host about 10 sites, most are quite dormant, one flash site has mp3 streaming and uses about 15gb a month bandwith, and two are ecommerce sites with one MySQL databases each.
Intital i only use about 3 gb of memory and 20gb transfer a month.
First of all hostgator have been really bad and my emails are not coming through on time and there is a major lag, probably because there are about fifteen billion other domains on the server.
I know i dont need a dedicated server, it would just be a waste, so i was thinking VPS. I dont mind paying whatever i need to for awesome support and reliability and obviously speed, but i dont want to pay for anything i dont (such as my own server).
I have been thinking about going with LiquidWed on their VPS2 plan - so 99 a month it seems like it has quite good features and allocation of resources (and im told that only 8 vps2 accounts are on the one server)
what does everyone think? is this okay or should i look elsewhere?
(someone else mentioned media temple too)
thanks for your help.
Jon

I don't really think you need a VPS either; just a well-managed reseller account .

Yes I agree with mripguru,
A good managed Reseller would be fine....but if you want to try a VPS...there are some very good hosts on this forum...seems like the $99.00 would be an overkill for you..
I have three VPS's...none of them are above $50.00....great performance and uptime..
Also the hosts I use...One of them has outstanding Managed support..very helpful and nothing is to much trouble for him
Good luck...

hey guys thanks for your help so far,
i was thinking of just getting a good reseller account, but i would like to have root access too, for installing things like jira etc .
thats why i thought VPS would be good to have that flexibility,
can anyone help me with any other companies i should look into?
maybe i should just get the VPS1 plan with liquid web - its 60 a month?
edit:
oh and as another note, i was considering a AU VPS as im in sydney (but the viewers to the site are 50% internatioal 50% australian but im happy to stay with US as i world all day and night and i use a team of coders in europe - so if there are server problems the time zone is okay for them too.. im not fussed.

Do not get an AU vps. They offer almost no bandwidth, so unless they use almost NO bandwidth at all, you better be careful doing that. Please think about EU or US.
USA:
www.virpusservers.com < Great
www.commit1.com < New, not much on them, was offered a good deal.
EU:
www.budgetdedicated.com < Amazing, you get more than you pay for.

I am currently hosting about 12 sites on a powervps 256mb ram vps with cpanel, have not had any problems during the past three months. An initial problem with dns was handled promptly and professionally.
virpus is also quite good, a bit more money though.
a2b2 is another to consider. Rus gives fantastic support.

You may not actually need to jump to VPS yet...
Check out ResellerZoom, I've host some side websites with them for a bit now and they've been great.

Without question, Knownhost is one to check out...
I currently have multiple VPS's with them and they have been nothing short of great!
Awesome support, great setup, rock solid servers and great network...
Not sure about now, but last month they were offering 50% off your first two months...

Just depends on whether or not you need the control and flexibility that a vps has to offer... a reseller account is good if you just want to do some shared hosting but aren't very familiar with how to control and manage a server from the operating system standpoint.
