Looking for a good reliable host!

I am kinda new at choosing a host, I used to have a website which was perpetuous-dreamer.net and I had to stop it because I couldn't keep up with school work. Now I have free time and I really want to start making websites again. Though now my only concern is choosing hosts. I am looking for reliable paid hosting. I have used netrillium in the past, but their server got a virus in the system and it completly destroyed my website!

What I am looking for:

Under 7.00 bucks a month
reliable and trustworthy
enough space and bandwidth for an artwork site (like a portfolio).

Here are some Hosts I have been looking at but unsure about:
(type in the url in a new browser)

surpasshosting.com - Heard good and bad stuff about them...
frozenwebhost.com
peerlesshost.com
xfluro.net
integra-net.com
lunarpages.com - kinda pricey
dreamhost.com - They are pricey, but I dunno...

Some of these are cheap but I am not sure if they are reliable. If there are any other hosts that you recommend, please state it! I am not sure about these hosts, but what would you recommend? If you have used one of these hosts listed above, please tell me if you would recommend them or not. :3

I would HIGHLY appreciate some help. Thanks!

Read about overselling before on deciding on a host:

How much space and bandwidth do you think you need?

Surpass Host are nice. Don't go for DreamHost... I wouldn't expect them to last long.

While I am not sure how much space and bandwidth you are currently looking for, I suggest Precision Effect for your webhosting needs. I've been with them for over three months and have nothing bad to say. Give their website an overview and see if they are what you are looking for. Good luck in searching for a suitable webhost!

I hate to push the same company in two posts back to back days, especially since I'm no longer with them myself, but hostrocket was running a $4.95 special, don't know if it's still available

Really? They've been in business since 1997 and so I gather they know what they are doing. Granted, it DOES look like they are crazy... as they say themselves - but it seems to be an image they like to convey. (How about the "sleepy Joe" on their front page?!?)

Lunarpages is one of the reliable host in the industry. Their support is good. You can also consider startlogic and bluehost. My personal favorite is bluehost for the excellent support.

I have no experience with any of them except for Dreamhost - I have a friend who uses DH and absolutely loves them. I think their load times can be a bit slow at times, but his sites are PHP-based, so it could be something in his code. Actual downtime is very rare, though.

I am afraid I can be of no help on your other choices.

What kind of space your portfolio may require? If you think that the requirements are modest, then I would suggest that you search on the forum and there would be lot many matching hosts.
