Question

Who will win? ... Detroit vs. Carolina

Okay, for all the hockey fans out there, who do you think will win the Stanley Cup this year? My vote obviously goes to the Detroit Red Wings. I see that alpha is a fan of the Hurricanes according to his status...

I'm open to discussion regardless of who you choose and agree that even though Detroit is heavily favored, an upset can possibly happen.

Early prediction is Detroit in four games. Sorry...

OMG is hockey still going? Seriously I like hockey but damn thats a long season. Its almost summer...you would think all the frozen lakes would be thawed out by now. Why dont they start hockey during the mid fall and end it early spring?

lol, I'm only a fan now after realizing that a sports team in North Carolina finally made it to the 'finals' of a season.

Let's see - we used to have the hornets, they've been doing better this seasons - but never really made it anywhere ever since the original hornets all gave up and left to other teams.

Panthers - their second year was impressive for getting into the deciding games of the super bowl - but they didn't make it past the packards, who won the bowl in the end.

No MLB league here as far as I know... bunch of minors...

So, in between the depression of Hornets' popularity and the Panthers' gameplay - Canes have done a great job so far getting the 'Carolina Fever' back into this state.

I never even know the Canes were in the playoffs until about 3 weeks ago - saw couple of the games against the Maple Leafs and was quite impressed with the games.

I don't know if the Maple Leafs sucked or whatever (never kept up with hockey) but Canes really kicked their butts.

In any case, I almost always root for the under dogs in games in which I don't really follow the teams or the sport. Like the western finals in NBA... I rooted for the Kings cause Lakers are always hyped up as the Champs, I thought it would be good for the Kings to come back and show them a show. Although they lost the 7th game tonight, a good playoff game - Lakers move on.

Actually, hockey (NHL) begins in the first week of October. Pre-season is in September. There are 82 games in a season and the playoffs don't begin until mid-April. The two teams that make it to the finals usually only end up with a good month and a half before starting all over again. That's why it's difficult for teams to win in consecutive years. Not that it hasn't happened... (1997 and 1998 )

oh yea, I should add that Larry Bird is looking over to bringing in an expansion NBA team into Charlotte since the Hornets left - I am just crossing my fingers for this possible NBA team to be successful (not really in the beginning since all teams need to start off somewhere) but later...

I'm really a big fan of Atlanta tho... the Braves and the GT Yellow Jackets (my school) - my favorite teams!

I did predict they would make it to the Finals against the Red Wings. I think the injuries were the biggest reason for their demise. Although Carolina has surprised many this year but three times they defeated Toronto in overtime. Those games could have easily gone the other way.

After that game seven against Colorado, how could there be any doubts?

Sure was nice to finally take Colorado in the playoffs, it was nerve racking until about, oh, five minutes into the first period of game 7.

The rest of the game was just to see how much they could tease Wah Wah Roy.

Detroit in 5. Have to win it at home!
