Greener Computers... yay or nay?

Hey what does everyone think about paying slightly more for a greener computer/server to help the environment seeing as most components are harmful when they biodegrade slightly.

I saw something the other day on the news and just thought I would see what people thought.

They're more expensive because they're made with more expensive materials.
The current material used in microchips is usually pretty poisonous when the casing is damaged and they poisons do not bio-degrade.... and apparently now there is an issue where old unused computers are building up as there is no way to dispose of them properly.

I think if you push for it enough in the market the prices will come down. You put pressure on the bigger parts makers to go green and things will get cheaper.

If I had the option and could afford it I would not mind having a green system.

Why would this be better?? Using parts like that might not be as good and would ware out faster!! (Their quality probably wouldnt be as good to begin with)

That may or may no be true.

"Greener" parts does not always mean they will not last as long or perform as well.

If the costs worked out to come out of your electricity bill and you saved money that way, I am sure everyone would do it
