Unusual load up this morning

Hey guys,

My usual load is around 0.2 . However, this morning I noticed an unusual average of about 1.45. So, I logged into SSH and ran "top -c" to see what the problem was. I notice that I have a user that is constantly showing up with th following command:

Quote:
/usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/bin/analog +CIMAGEDIR /images/ +CDOMAINSFILE /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/share/analog

Anyone know what this is, and what is causing this?

Thanks,
Kyle

This is the website statistics software running. It could be a user has a large log file, or the script just got stuck.

Thanks a2b2. How would I go about stopping it? This is a cPanel/WHM machine.

Delete his log files, as a2b2 said they are probably quite large.

Thanks. Do you know where I can find the logs for this to clear? Looks like it is analog stats.

I suspended the account for a minute and then unsuspended. That seemed to have fixed the problem about it constantly showing up and causing the load to go up.

Would still like to clear the log files though.

Actually, it's probably better to enable "log rotate" for this. Firstly fix the default cPanel log rotate file up as it is configured badly, simply edit /etc/logrotate.d/httpd (can be /etc/logrotate.d/apache on some servers).

Make sure the first line reads "/usr/local/apache/logs/*log {"

then edit "/bin/kill -HUP `cat /var/run/httpd.pid 2>/dev/null` 2> /dev/null || true"

to: "/bin/kill -HUP `cat /usr/local/apache/logs/httpd.pid 2>/dev/null` 2> /dev/null || true"

Now you can enable log rotate, which is in WHM under "tweak server settings" I believe (long time since I used cPanel properly).

Appreciate that Jeff. What exactly are these changes effecting? I've always had logrotate running on my server.
