Root password for pgsql not set :s

I am trying to change something in the pqsql db for hsphere due to a user password issue yada yada, however I in ssh when i type pgsql hsphere it obviously prompts me for the root pqsql password - oops. I don't ever remember having that set. Does anyone know a quick fix to set it, or am I down the tube? So far I am not finding anything helpful on google. Thanks!

Try this: cat /var/lib/pgsql/.pgpass

That would contain the root password if you set it (it sounds like you're not sure if it was ever set or not?)

Well hsphere set it up, so I never got the option to set it. I ran this command later to gain the access to the db i needed to change: su - cpanel -c 'psql hsphere'
