Good experiences with Crucial Web Hosting (crucialwebhost.com)

I am a software developer and writer who was looking for inexpensive webhosting for a supporting a PHP-based blog and some Python programming. I found Crucial Web Hosting to be very impressive. The basic shared hosting tier (at the time of my subscription) offered 2GB of diskspace with 20GB of bandwidth for just $1.95 a month.

I already had my own domain so I didn't take advantage of Crucial's own registration and domain privacy services. Setting up webhosting with them was painless.

Crucial uses PHP4 on Apache 1.3. I preferred PHP5 over Apache 2.0; however that was not available at the time of my subscription. Crucial told me they were working on a next gen competitively priced system that would have these features, and would migrate me over at no cost once available. Crucial did not have mod_python, which is understandable, but Python was available via CGI. Java JSP/Servlets were also available. Crucial uses Tomcat 5.5.9 with Java 1.5.0. I wasn't able to test it out however. When I discovered I needed access to LibCurl and XML for a PHP script, tech support set it up for me and contacted me within minutes on a saturday afternoon.

For personal webhosting, I highly recommend Crucial Web Hosting for its support and server performance.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to maintain my subscription because I have some development going on, and was planning on using my site for testing both Python and Rails. Crucial does not offer Ruby on Rails, though the tech support said it was under discussion. As I was within my 30 day trial period, Crucial promptly refunded me my subscription (I had paid annually via PayPal).

Currently I am using Rails Playground to host PHP5, Rails, and Python CGI. I will write a review of this service once I finish transferring over my old articles.

Hey Keen, thanks for your comments about Crucial Webhost! I had a very good live chat with one of their employees the other day, and he was very friendly to me and could offer me a good system for a very small amount of money. I'm planning on moving my website to them in august, but I'm not really sure. Thanks again for your comment, any more comments about Crucial are more then welcome!

Thanks Keen Anthony for your review on crucial it seems they really did take care of you well. I mean adding certain things that they may not have offered normally to satisfy you says something about them. They are there to help and that stands out a lot in today’s hosting world. Good luck on your future projects and best of luck to you.

I looked into Crucial Web Hosting (just out of curiosity) a while back and they looked like a great company. However, the first chat agent I spoke with did not sound the least bit professional. After we chatted for a while, he transferred me without even telling me he was going to transfer me!

Other than that, they look like a good company - Thanks for the review.

i was impressed with their pre-sales folks.

aside from an error on my connection end with downloading a test file, the operator was extremely helpful and polite.

they're on my 'for the future' list.

I have a Crucial Reseller Account

I've had a reseller account with Crucial for several months now and couldn't be happier. The automated setup was easy, my account was active, up and running in no time, and within 24 hours I had moved my first 15 domains to the account without one single problem to report.

With nearly 30 accounts and growing on my reseller account now, my clients (who don't notice much unless it's broken) have actually begun to call me to say how smooth things have been running for them.

My experience with their support is limited, since I've only needed support on two occaisions, and both times I was taken care of quickly and efficiently. When I needed some extra tweaking of access and control, my request was attended too quickly, given fair consideration, and the administrators granted me what I needed.

I now register all my domains through Crucial so that they're on one bill with my reseller account, and I've begun to use the Affiliate Program too. There are so many choices in the market for your hosting, and I looked into plenty and signed up for my fair share too. Crucial is top of my list now, and will continue to be.

Keen,
Thanks for stopping by to let us know about your positive experience with your host. I wish more people took the time to say good things about their host instead of only coming on to say bad things. Thanks again.
