To those who replaced Chip Fans = how?

OK, I'm not going to put up with my AMD 3500 +'s loud fan anymore, after enjoying how quiet my Intel one is, so a question.

If you replaced the same brand chip fan, what is the procedure for taking it off, and what fan did you replace it with? I doubt I can just lightly rip off the fan without damaging the chip.

I suck at finding info on search engines, so please don't tell me to go to google . A Link would be helpfull .

You're best off replacing the entire heatsink/fan. Look for a heatsink that uses a large diameter fan, big slow turning fans make far less noise than small high speed fans yet move the same volume of air.

Look for combos along the lines of this http://www.axiontech.com/prdt.php?src=FG&item=70248

You should be able to remove the fan by using the plastic clips located on both the top sides of the fan. You might need a flat-head screwdriver, but I can usually just use my hands. You will need to remove the motherboard to get the bottom part of the fan out. A picture of what that looks like is here: http://www.hardwarezone.com/guides/a...index.php?pg=6. This is if you have a socket 939 motherboard. If you don't see the plastic clips, it'll look nothing like that

I like Zalman fans myself. My dad's fan is so cool that it keeps itself off most of the time. It only turns itself on at about 2000 RPM when running and is inaudible. But it weighs a couple pounds and is over the suggested maximum fan weight AMD wants

You might damage the fan but I doubt you could harm the chip since it's not part of the fan component.
