I'm setting up an account at Dreamhost. I have been using a reseller account at Site5 and I'm considering moving away. I have this weird situation:

If I sign up to the discussion forums at Dreamhost and use any of my Site5 email addresses, I never get the confirmation email and password.

If I sign up using a gmail account, I get the confirmation email instantly.

If I use one of my Dreamhost's accounts to send mail from Outlook and put one of my Site5 accounts as the recipient, the message gets lost forever. If I cc my gmail account, the message is delivered instantly to the gmail account, but not to the Site5 account.

Now if I stop using Dreamhost's SMTP server and use a local SMTP server, email doesn't get lost at all and I do receive every message sent.

Is it possible that Site5 has blacklisted Dreamhost's servers and/or email addresses?

seems dreamhost maybe on some spam list or not have RDNS

check both reverse dns & Spam checker on your mail.domain.com that hosted with dreamhost on www.dnsstuff.com

OK. I did that. What I'm a supposed to see there?

the mail server's IP is 208.97.132.20

Spam checker shows "not listed" for most servers.

I don't know what's the meaning of the reverse DNS results but it actually finds a hostname when checking the above IP so I understand they do have RDNS.

Oh, I did that. By the time they answer, I'll be miles away from them...

This usually happens when a hosts IP is blacklisted for spamming. However in such cases it should get resolved within 24-72 hours max.

dreamhost? now theres a host i would not recommend to my worst enemy...

nothing but downtime and SPAM msgs from the admins or "happy overworked downtime special dreamhost staff member" letting you know why your server is down, or not getting email, or crashed or lost data AGAIN.

a perfect example of a low price thats not worth the pennies saved.
