one of my friend's PC's had a virus today.

After getting rid of the actual 60+ viruses and trojans on his computer, it just froze. So I turned it off.

Now when I try restarting it... it just keeps going to the "Gateway" logo page and then makes you think its starting up.. but then it's back at the gateway logo boot up screen. (same as above).

Do you think the boot sector is messed up? I've tried pressing F8 to boot in safe mode, but after choosing safe mode it just goes back to the friggin gateway boot screen.

Any ideas? I can't find a windoze CD to boot up with .. so does anyone have any secret tips or somesuch?

If not i'll just slap a windows xp cd in there once i get one.

Likely when the virus' were removed, some components required at startup were hosed. A reformat & fresh installation of Windows is likely the best, and safest way to bring her back to life.

that was the obvious thing to do... i was looking for something less destructive. oh well. thanks for your response !

Try to boot from a floppy and see if its passing that gatway screen ...
