I always thought 'desktop replacements' take away from what a laptop should be. A light, portable machine that you can use to work on when you're away from your PC. Not something that weighs ten pounds, overshadows you on your lap (when it's not burning it from the intense GPU heat) and has a battery life of 26 minutes.

Funny how this came up on the same day as this news entry that was linked.
Looks like an awsome laptop that can probably out perform a lot of desktops now days; and a huge rip off. I have a gateway and its' been doing fine (even though its litterally been running the whole time since purchase @ December 21 last year, none stop, only goes into hibernate when I commute), so I'd suggest you look into some gateway units from futureshop (NOT bestbuy; yes, they're the same company, but bestbuy is more expensive than futureshop). You might be able to find something similar for significantly lesser.

Naa i dont want laptop for travelling at all as i am no buisness tycoon at all and it will be basically used to replace my p2 333 emachine that i am using right now, instead of spending 2 k on a good desktop and other 2 k on decent laptop (if i ever need a pc to go along with me) i would end up spending almost same cash but.
So thought why not just blow the money on one beast which if needed can be carried arround maybe for lan party (desktop pcs are hard to carry around).
So mstar(or anyone here) , happen to know any canadian based shops which can get me customized AMD based lappy?
@andy people from toronto area say that bestbuy is cheaper than the rippoff futureshop, what makes u say that futureshop is cheaper? And what about londondrugs lol.
And omg funny article i wonder if the laptop i just configured has the same future or not, maybe i need liquid nitrogen cooling system for it.

I'd highly suggest going for a core duo rather than an AMD Turion.
Check out ncix.com or tigerdirect.ca for a large selection.

Sir Star why u suggest duo core rather than amd turion 64 m-40 with ht? Any particular reason ? Do amds still have more heat issues than intel? doesnt tigerdirect.ca charges for border taxes?
Edit:
Hmm looked at ncix and found this deal : http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...ustomerReviews
are acer laptops good? Seems like it can handle i suppose most games and has same features like the dell lappy i configured above with only the graphics card missing.

tigerdirect.com does charge border taxes.
the .ca site charges in $CAD and no border taxes.
While I'm all for AMD processors in towers, I still believe Intel has the upper hand with their mobile chips, in the performance to heat and battery usage ratios.
That acer you linked to is actually the one I'm looking at purchasing. It's a great mix of portability and functionality for a good price.

yEs but the graphics card dont u think is sick it wont be able to play bf2 with high graphics for sure. And new games that might come out, but processor speed and ram are great i have to say.
Hmm amd are supposed to be better for gaming though

Dual core is what it is... 2 cores allowing for more functionality. At the price area you are looking at, a dual core intel is the way to go.
In regards to heat, for the past while AMD have beat the heck out of intel in heat generation. Just look in the colo forums, and you'll see why people recommend opterons, amd's, etc. over intels.
Personally, I think dell is a rip, unless you are getting a 3 year warranty with it. We got a pretty good computer for $1800
Dual core intel (1.8'ish? ghz)
1gb dual channel ram
x1400 (256mb) video card
15" screen
All for less than half of what you are paying.
