Hard drive transfer/ disk error

Few days ago i posted a topic saying that my laptop was broken, but i needed some data from my hard drive, some people reccomended some cables. I don't have enough money in my account to get them cables

So i got out my other old laptop, took out the hard drive and replaced it with the hard drive from my broken laptop but im getting a error saying 'non-system disk or disk error'

Broken laptop is a fujitsu siemens.
Old working laptop is a Compaq.

What am i doing wrong?

The older laptop may not be capable of detecting the newer drive due to it's size, etc.

As for using the hard drive in a desktop, it can be done but you have to purchase an adapter to convert the laptop interface into a standard IDE based interface.

These are really really cheap, well worth the money if the data is important to you.

Yes, they are worth the money if the data is important. I save my friend once from losing every web design project he had ever worked on. Had it no been for that adapter he would have been screwed.

Needless to say he backs up more now. (Sorry, not trying to go off topic).

Has definetly taught me a lesson to back up.

If i am going to 'have' to get some extra cables to get the data i might aswell get this...

Would it work?

Seems like i can use it like an external hard drive.

It should work just fine. I use a couple of different hard drive enclosures in my day to day routine.
