RapidSite, Pair, Terabyte

Has anyone here used Verio's RapidSite reseller program? I searched the forum for the last 6 mos. and only found one post about them. If so, is RapidSite better than Verio's brand? IOW, which Verio reseller solution is the best?

I'm looking for a company that's been around awhile and has a good track record. Though I'm familiar with recommendations for MCHost and Splashhost here, neither of them appear to be what I'm looking for. What about Terabyte?

Ideally, I'd also like to sell Windows 2000 plans without having to pay for 2 reseller plans, and the only one I've heard of that offers that is Matrix, a division of Vortech. Are they any good? I read some bad here about either matrixreseller or resellermatrix. I don't remember which one because I get their names confused. I'm also not sure if it's possible to find a control panel where I'd be able to use the same control panel for windows and unix since I don't like the price of H-Sphere (I prefer CPanel/WH Manager and it don't do winblows AFAIK).

Out of the ones I've mentioned which one of those would you go with or not go with, and why?

BTW, for those who made me an offer in the Requests Forum, I've decided to do my own support. Also, I am still reviewing your offers.

http://Pair.com = Very good guys.

Although they don't have reseller programs in the way that is common and prevalent. Its more of a merged billing, and the client has full knowledge that Pair is the operator.

I've used their services, excellent. No support for Windows, only FreeBSD.

http://Datapipe.com = apparently good guys, I have no experience with them yet. Support *nix and Windows

We have used Pair since 1998. They are one of the faster and reliable companies out there. They take security and server load very seriously. Their MySQL databases stay on seperate servers from hosting machines. If you are a webdesigner and want a 99.9% uptime, pair is the one. Kevin who runs the company is an ultra UNIX geek (I think he go by sigma here ). They also offer telnet (Not just SSH). Pair is a bit pricey, but hey what you pay = what you get.

The Pair community (via news) is also excellent. A much higher ratio of people that know what they are doing. Its almost worth having a shared account there just to access the community.

I just wish Pair had an unmanaged server offering, but won't hold my breath as it goes against everything they believe in.

Thanks for those recommendations. I like the stability and reliability that Pair seems to offer. However, they appear to have too many restrictions and don't offer hardly any discounts to someone just starting out on their VAR.

Additionally, Pair seems to be saying that they won't allow you to just be a hosting reseller, that they can sell hosting, and you need to also offer something different. So Pair is really competing against you, and insists that you tell customers that you are using Pair. I'd think if you did that, most would just go with Pair.

Thanks for clearing up my Matrix confusion. As far as hosts go that allow you to sell both Windows and Unix plans, I wish they had more of an emphasis on Unix, such as a Unix plan with 2 GB space and Windows with 1 GB space with a total of 30 GB bandwidth; OR 2 GB space/30 GB bandwidth unix or windows, and let you do the distribution yourself.

I also looked at exa-bytes. I don't really understand why their windows reseller plan is a bulk plan but their unix plans are per plan.

I guess the difference is what you have to offer. If what you are offering is simply reselling capacity on a box for vhost / email, then you may not have much to differentiate.

However if you are selling IT services to a company, they may well appreciate having a single point of contact for their Internet needs.

Or if you are selling a value added application, such as a time billing system or sales forcasting or document management - quite a different thing.

There is far more money in such things...

Pair's target audience are people who are into Perl/CGI scripting. I have seen them advertise in perl resources a lot, hence they are attracting a more hardcore audience in my opinion.
