Taking files from hard drive
I have two questions.
question 1
Why does every kind of laptop have a different kind of hard drive?
question 2
My laptop is not working (physical problem).
I need to get a few files out of the harddrive and put them on my other laptop, what is the best and most easiest way of doing this?

1. Eh, most of them uses mobile HD unless you have something that's like super propriertary. I always make sure to check the back to see if I can easily add RAM and change the HD before buying
2. Network cable. Just set up windows workgroup. Or if both of them have wireless you can do the same thing without the network cable, but if the files are big, it'll be slower.

Most laptop uses 2.5" HDs for laptops, although brand to brand may differ tiny bit, they'll generally fit in other brand's casing. If you want to get files off from it, get an USB external casing for it, plug it up and you're set to get the files via desktop.

I'd say the easiest thing to do is setup a home network and just move files that way. If that is not possible, then go to Best Buy, get an external 100GB Drive for $99 and use that. You have a 30 day money back on it, so when you're done, just return it to get the money back. That's what I'm doing right now with a new HD I just bought.

Almost every laptop has a 2.5" harddrive. There are a few sony laptops(one or two of them) that have a mini harddrive, which will not fit onto the 2.5" hdd connectors.
The only practical method of transferring your data is to remove the drive and use a USB connector to hook it to a desktop. You could actually go do this at FedEX Kinko's if you don't own a desktop, then just burn what you need to a CD or DVD.
EDIT: You could actually hook it up to another laptop, if you decided to go out and buy another.

Get yourself one of these http://cooldrives.com/saandidehadr.html
With that adaptor you can connect any IDE drive (3.5, 2.5, SATA) to USB and access it from another machine.
