vBulletin or InvisonBoard

I am looking into making a purchase of one of these boards. I have only ran vBulletin way back in the day when they actually had a free/lite version, and up until about 3 months ago I was running Invision board. What do you guys think is the best one out there and why?

I like IPB if you dont need mods. If you need quality and diverse mods, I think vB is supported better in this regard.

I have both. IPB 2.1.6 and VB 3.5.4

They are both similar, IPB is slightly more expensive and is harder to work with in terms of themes and modifications.

Overall I love VB the most, it has small features like a preview of topics when you hover over the title, it is a much cleaner look and much more feature packed to start off with. Massive modification support too, if VB doesn't have what you want, no doubt there is a mod out for it!

However IPB does have better moderation and administrative control, just lacks some of the member features VB has.

I may be biased as I work with vB Chinese, but I say vBulletin provides better support and easier to manage mods (not to manage a HUGE selection all available at one place as well).

I bought it for that alone... countless time I've spent modifying a forum and end up losing it a few months later when a new version is released. No anymore.

vBulletin There are many posts explaining why many feel vB is superior, mainly due to ease of use, plugin system, customer support, and addons.

Thanks for all the input. I think I might need to scrape some money together for my Hobby site and purchase a copy of vBulletin. Also kind of off topic a little, but is there a good gallery software that ties in with vB? Does Gallery(gallery.menalto.com) work with this well?(user groups etc) I am currently running drupal and want to convert over to somewhat an all in one solution.

One image gallery that integrates for free is called coppermine, you can also get another one which is paid called photopost.

I'd never switch back from vBulletin.

I like IPB better from the end user standpoint. Both are great forums though, hard to go wrong with either one.

Invision owns VB. Invision is classier, has smoother code, easy to run, numerous options and personal support forums that are much better than the VB forums IMO. I've used both for years and I just can't see how VB is better.
