Netfirms & Background processes

I am going to either purchase a year of netfirms or a year of dreamhost, and I was wondering if one can run intensive background processes on netfirms.

I know that dreamhost has CPU usage throttling and all that sort of business, which I don't want to deal with.

Would it theoretically be possible to run a gaming server on either one of these hosts, since they support SSH and will allow you to run external scripts?

Not a chance with either. If you require processes simply go with a shell host that allows them or get a VPS/Dedicated.

VPS would be your best option to start. Web hosting is exactly that: Hosting of sites not gaming apps.

I'd recommend searching around for previous reviews/critiques from other clients of each company. Be sure to research them thoroughly before considering either!

Good luck with the hunt.

Webhosts offer ssh2 to do your life easier. For example to edit .php files, setup cron, backup databases easier.

If you want to run game servers you need to find a company that does that kind of hosting or get a VPS/Dedicated so you can run both your websites and your gaming servers.
