I use Joomla everyday for a gaming community website and I couldn't be more pleased. It's an extremely powerful CMS and once customized, you'll be quite pleased.

Me too and I shamlessly promote Joomla. Much love for it.

Like WHT, it has a great community, it's my fav CMS, many templates and extensions and that component happens to be very cool. Good luck on your quest, -A

I hear some people say they don't like it because too many sites will look the same middle content-wise.

Do you mean in the "fixed width" sense? Because there are plenty of variable width templates out there and you can make them pretty easy too... But you have to pick your poison - ease of managing your content, site-look uniqueness, etc. I like it because I'm lazy and not the most skilled at designing something from the ground up. That would be, IMHO, my dream. But the couch keeps calling my name...

Having Joomla run the backend has nothing to do with the way the web site looks. In fact - it almost doesn't matter what kind of design you want to make - it'll almost always be possible to skin for Joomla. Ofcourse there would be some exceptions, but most likely Joomla wouldn't be a good choice of a CMS for such cases.

I have heard nothing but positive praise for the magazine program from many friends that use it (who, to be frank with you, are not as computer savvy as many WHT users!)

I had a look at the backend briefly and it does appear to be awesome!
