I am currently looking at ZipExtreme.com to expand my game server company to dallas. Has anyone had experience with them? I did a search and nothing came up. They are a sub-division of ZipServers.com, but I think the ZipExtreme servers are on lower-latency backbones. I am a little weary about trying them out after reading this recent post on them; http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...ght=zipservers.

I haven't necessarily heard anything bad about them, but I do know a few people who have recently moved over to their servers with the issues that managed.com has been having. A couple of them are wary and have been in discussion with my company as a backup possibility, but from what I've been able to garner based on their talks with sales and support at ZipExtreme (or ZipServers), they haven't had any concerns to this point.

Hi Dan,
That was my topic you are referring to, and ZipServers wasn't at fault for some of it. The first time I went down for over 21+ hours becasue of some type of DNS configuration issue. This was resolved, but took them forever to make some simple changes to a resolv.conf file.
Two days later, I went down becasue of DDOS attacks to my box. This obviously wasn't Zip's fault, but we eventually got it worked out.
Overall, Zip isn't too bad of a company. They offer great pricing and quality servers as they are just resellers of LT. However, if you ever have any type of critical problems that requires immediate attention, they're email support is rather slow, and no other option of contact is available.

Why not just go to The Planet directly? That's who they are using for their provider. Do they offer cheaper prices or some specials that Planet does not, or perhaps better support?

Heh i didn't know that. If you go to the planet the packages and prices are identical. Makes sense to cut out the middle man and buy direct. Thanks for the tip off.

What if the reseller offers better support? I don't know if they do or not. you might want to look and see if they offer any support packages.

They say they offer 24/7 support, but i made an inquiry probably 36 hours ago now and no response. ThePlanet offers some managed servers, and I would rather just purchase from them if i needed them.

I'm aware of that, but I would imagine a decent business with people could atleast check their sales box once a day.

A lot of companies, in terms of reselling existing companies, end up with a bulk discount where an individual buying from them wouldn't receive the bulk. Its how I can offer cheaper prices through my company for colocation than you could get through the provider that I use -- who in turn gets it cheaper from AboveNet/Peer1 than I would, yet the bandwidth/quality is the same.
It sounds, however, as though ThePlanet and ZipXtreme aren't in that particular boat.

Sales may not be 24/7 and only be weekdays. If you submitted it on Friday night or so, you may not receive a response until Monday..
