My HostNexus Experience

I read about HostNexus here on WHT, and decided to give them a try.

Things that interested me:

They've been around for a number of years.

They seem to have a strong friendship with the creator of HTTPme, which is probably the greatest host I've ever seen in terms of support, and being there for the customer.

I had seen a mix of reviews, and just wanted to learn more.

My experience:

I spent my first month with them using a Windows Bronze Plesk account. This was the "bottom of the line" shared account. I was put on a server that was apparently put into service in Feb 2006.

It was always very speedy, and actually seemed to perform better than my VPS with PowerVPS, both in delivery of pages, and speed of Plesk. The Plesk control panel was lightning fast, which is something I really liked. A few days after signing up there was a UPS failure which affected the servers. This made me feel uneasy, but I stuck with it.

I also communicated with support twice with technical questions, and they were reponded to within approximately 1 hour.

I requested an upgrade to a Windows Plus reseller account after my second monthy billing cycle. They worked very closely with me to make the upgrade, and charged me the difference of what I had already paid for the month, AND restarted the billing cycle, so I didn't have to pay extra. They actually created a special charge via PayPal to do this, so I know someone had to take time out of their day to do this.

No changes with the Reseller account. Everything worked very quickly as with the shared account.

I emailed my cancellation to their accounts email address, but didn't receive a response after 24 hours, so I opened a ticket with their support. (I don't think my email triggered a ticket, because I never got a confirmation email) They promptly cancelled my account, and my PayPal subscription.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay. If I have the need for Windows hosting that can exist in a shared/reseller environment, I'll definitely consider using them. I may actually come back myself, just to have an extra account to tool around with ASP on. I've got to free up some time first. I would drop my VPS, but for the fact that I would have to move a lot of accounts, and I can't seem to live without SSH (ultimately it comes down to a control issue).

Something almost all hosts have done with me when I go to leave is ask me if I would consider staying. Some offer me a month free to see if I would like to stick around (usually I have been around for at least 90 days). That has resulted in changing my mind at times. So HN, if you don't regularly do this, then you might consider it! Not necessarily the free hosting bit, but just asking.

Wow, that's possibly one of the nicest thing anyone's ever said about me.

Laurance runs a tight ship at hostnexus and is passionate about his work. They haven't earned their great reputation for nothing.
