To Widescreen or not?

What is better widescreen or a normal screen? It seems like all High Definition TV shows is in widescreen. I don't really get how widescreen is better there is a lot of wasted space on the top and bottom of my high Definition TV when i watch it.

I thought about buying a widescreen LCD for my PC but wouldn't games look funny?

Some games will support widescreen. Although, most games out now are not native to widescreen, since they are pretty new.
Do a little searching for games you want to play, and decide then whether it will be worth the investment.

Widescreen is pretty much only useful if you watch a lot of movies or if you need to work with two windows side by side for some reason. Otherwise, it's just hype.

Widescreen is great for new DVDs. Takes a bit of getting used to though. We have a 50" Plasma in our Family room, and all new DVDs are in widescreen. Had my brother over yesterday for a visit, and we watched a bit of LOTR Twin Towers, and he couldn't get over the widescreen black strips top and bottom of the screen. Does take a little getting used to. Our PayTV displays older programs at 4:3 and newer programs at 16:9. All movies are usually 16:9. You can adjust the cropping with the remote.

Our Home theatre screen is being installed this week, and it's 4m wide. That means in widescreen the picture is 4 meters wide and 1 meter high. Not 100% sure on those specs though, but they sound close to being right. Of course the ratio depends on the DVD output etc. It's all a bit confusing if you ask me.

A research was conducted, and it was found out that we see more in width, than height. Widescreen is easier on the eyes, so now all movies and televisions as widescreen.

That's nothing. Can't wait for 'State of Origin' night in the home theatre with 8 speakers and a 4m wide screen. It's going to be an awesome night.

Couldn't a cheaper 4:3 big screen achieve the same effect as a smaller 16:9 screen?

It is cheaper to buy a 4:3 screen and watch the widescreen dvd movies with the top&bottom black panes.

16:9 is true widescreen while 4:3 is just a normal screen with top and bottom black strips.
