Question

Connection Problem with Google?

I really need help and I hope someone can advise me.

My sites which are hosted on some server behave in a strange way. I noticed three things so far, which are causing harm to my business:

1- The cached version of the pages at google are no later than 5 April. Usually, google has a daily cached version of these sites!
In contrary, my other sites which are hosted on other companies' servers do not face this problem although they are not as well seo'd as the first sites.

2- I use google sitemaps service. Suddenly, it started to show an error message "file timed out" for the sites on this server while the other sites' sitemaps are working well!

3- Google adsense ads show perfectly on the sites that are hosted else where. Where the more important sites, on this server, are misbehaving big time! Only one ad shows per page and it does not update!!

My host said: Unfortunately the server appears to be responding fine in regards to connectivity, which is the likely issue with Google. There is not much we can do until we know what the actual problem is, and Google would be the only ones that would know this. I already did but I expect some time before I get a reply.

So, any idea what this is for sure?
How can I solve this problem?

Thanks.

Lordo - On a very quick note, it may not really be a problem with your server afterall. You may want to deleted the sitemap file and reupload it in google. This way you will know if the problem is arising again.

Did you make any changes of late to your site's root folder permissions in your hosting account? like .htaccess file..? Also any changes to robots.txt?

Thank you, edifice, for your advise.

1- I did rename and reupload the files but no change.
2- The problem is not only with the sitemaps but also google caching. Now, I found out that yahoo caching has the same problem with this server's sites.
3- I didn't change ANYTHING.
4- Tere are no robots.txt. If there are some, they are empty.

See?

You need dedicated server when you have multiple websites, it will be easy for you to maintain all websites at one server.

Usually google bans some servers or IP ranges for the reason of multilinking or fraud clickings of search results etc, in this order, if your website is on server which is blacklisted by google for some reason, your website may get affected. In shared hosting it is difficult to find out which website is causing blacklistings and google is still a big private affair as far as its blacklisting is concerned.

Lordo - I have been following through various forums and websites and discovered that you are not the only one whose website cache is stuck at Apr 5th. I am still trying to determine possible causes for the sitemap file getting timed out. Can you please give me the path to your sitemap file?

Also please login to your control panel and download the raw log files for Apr. Analyze and file by searching for hits on your sitemap files and see if you see any potential problem in the log file.

Akash: Thank you. In fact, neither the IP nor any site is banned. I already have talked to google and we are discussing the issue. If something is banned, I would have known. I would at least know that from searching google.

edifice: I appreciate your efforts. Yes there are similar situations. If you check google sitemaps group (at google groups), you will see that this started in late 2005.

WOW While I am typing this, I checked google sitemaps to find the maps working! The Error mark was removed Wait.

I checked the latest hits log and google has been dining at my sites today! Media Partner agent and googlebot agent made themselves at home and surprised me I am glad as this nightmare is over!

edifice I will reward you with a PR6 link to your site for sincerely trying to help. This is the least I can do. I will PM you the details
