Powervps (6 months later) some thoughts from an oldbie

Dear all,

I have been using Powervps for over 6 months. When I started my account with them I was a true newbie. Today I consider myself an "oldbie". I would like to talk about some aspect of my experience with Powervps. Today I own an VPS account with them and I thinking to move, maybe to Servint.

The support,

Well, when I came from a disaster experience with my old host company. I consider their work as amatuer. I don't wanna talk about since it was an resseller account.
So, from my point of view, anything that looks nice to someone else could look excellent to me.
The firsts supports they gave to me were really nice. The average was 15 minutes. Then after some months went to 35-50 minutes. But they solve all my questions. And I never got charged for anything. Well I did not asked too much either.

The uptime,

I think that uptime is marvelous. They have an uptime better than my internet provider. In 6 months I had about 3 minutes offline.

The performace,

That is my real concern today. Today I did an traceroute to my site (I haven't I done that before????!!! well I'm still on bie stage ). This is my traceroute mark:

1 30ms
2 80ms
3 90ms
4 231ms
5 231ms
6 231ms
7 260ms
8 251ms
9 241ms
10 271ms
11 251ms
12 261ms
13 261ms

Total: 2 689 or 2.6 seconds

Well that scared a lot of me!!! I did a traceroute to other site on a VPS using servint and I got this:

1 41ms
2 41ms
3 191ms
4 221ms
5 201ms
6 211ms
7 211ms
8 211ms

Total: 1 328 or 1.3 seconds

What is this? Is my VPS performing like a shared server? After reading some emails about their performace I will do a lot of test now on my server however I am considering moving in about 5 days.

If some could help me to clear this issue I would be really glad.
Other thing that I would like to mention is that they were really nice when I had a problem with my Paypal accont that was cancelled by mistake. And always they were really polite supporting the issues I have.

One more thing. Are the benchmark software fair on their results?

By the way, thanks to all for making this forum a great place!!

Heh, i was asking for your PowerVPS IP so i can tracert it and compare with mine.

However, your ip says your hostname is *.BRAZILtelecom.com
No wonder your routes take longer.

From your location it seems servint has the best routing. ask a friend who is located somewhere else in brazil to tracert your vps and servint
see if he also gets lower routes with servint. do this test with a few people located in diferent regions and compare.

In the end you have to decide. Who is viewing your website.
More people from brazil? or more people from usa?
and pick a host that is better geographically located for your audience

Fertalk,

You cannot sum up the response time in traceroute. From your first post, the response time of your VPS is 261ms, whis is probably not that bad from Brasil.

And the score of 50.9 is not bad either. You may not be able to get it from a ServInt VPS.
