new business website

i'm starting a new business soon and part of this business is doing webdesign for people with the possibility of hosting some websites if its needed. i don't have a host for my new business yet.

If i was to host customer sites on the same host as my business would i need to get a reseller account?

i'm still not sure what company i am going to go with.

my current website is with UKHost4U, first 3/4 months were fine, around 15 mins downtime, but recently ive been having a lot more with apache problems so my mysql databases cant be contacted.

So would i need a reseller account and who with (recommended hosts)?

Hi there,

How many clients are you likely to be offering your hosting to, if it is more than a few you should definatly get a reseller plan.

I would recommend either doing a host quote by clicking "Find a host" at the top of this page, or going to the offer section and browsing through the reseller offers.

Good luck in finding a host!

if you wanted to give the people you are hosting the sites for access to the control panel and such as that then you would need a reseller account, if you are just going to build then and host them(they dont need access to it) then a regular web hosting plan would work, as long as you have add on domains included in the hosting plan

well i think it would be a bit of both. some may require cpanel but most would probably just need basic hosting.

in which case it would be advisable to get a host with many add on domains and tell the other sites to get a hosting plan elsewhere.

im not sure about the amount of customers yet.

i have used the find a host, but the replies i've got back just look amateurish.

i have looked around at lunarpages and hostgator, both seem good hosts but the amount of DDOS attacks on lunarpages is worrying.

edit: markjut, ive just been looking at your hosting site at hadleyhost. what are the speeds like? the hadley500 hosting package seems pretty good for me.

Well if your looking at clients who would like to have cpanel or any panel for that matter, I would strongly suggest you purchase a reseller somewhere. In addition, it will serve as a value added service since you are a designer, and that is your main area of business. If you can offer free hosting with your design packages, that makes you look better in a consumers aspect. Alot of individuals looking to have a website designed do not understand the process of getting it published and on the web for public eyes. You can eliminate the middle man by bundling hosting. I vote purchase a reseller.

Well I would suggest a provider that offers end user support. This way it will allow you, to focus on what is important to you which is web-design. I would suggest you lurk around the offers section on WHT. Once you find a provider you want to go with search around for some reviews on them

What is your budget for a reseller or just a package to use for your site? How many clients exactly are you looking to host for? And message me as I have an idea how to save you money!

I have no idea how many clients I will have. For all i know the web design part of my business may not pick up in which case I won't need the extra hosting and would just need hosting for my site.

No more than $20/mo for reseller hosting.

True, Lunarpages did have a severe DDOS atack some months ago, which spawned a flurry of bashings here on WHT. However, as far as I can recall this hasn't happened again.
Every host will have some negative posts, even the best host cannot satisfy every customer all the time. It is interesting to actually read the complainer's threads to see what is going on ....

Thats the problem with the internet, you generally only hear the bad things about stuff. Sometimes you will get people saying how good things are but they are generally outnumbered by the people that are having problems.

The fact that lunarpages have ~90,000 websites under them and even then there aren't that many complaints about them.

I sent you a private message which you might want to read and get back to me on AIM. You might be interested in what I had to say!
