Are there any special requirements for running an Internet Radio stream? I mean would any linux based web server work as long as the bandwidth is available?

Assuming you are going to be using shoutcast then you are pretty much right on. Shoutcast requires (in my experience) very little CPU/Ram power and loves bandwidth.

any way of serving windows media under a unix based server? that is "rebroadcasting" a stream that was originally encoded on a standalone machine.

You can listen with wmp to a shoutcast stream

I'm not sure about a Windows Media Server for linux, but you can serve wmv files via HTTP.

the idea is to listen to WindowsMedia encoded stream rather than mp3 stream. as far as I know shoutcast only streams mp3.

Try atlantic-hosting.net I think they offer pretty good shoutcast hosting. It will do exactly what your trying to accomplish.

hmmmm must of went down the drain, used to be a good provider for shoutcast. This provider was running under the domain charmer-hosting.com then for some reason switched to Atlantic Hosting. Thanks for the correction cyberturk
