Wireless Network Connection; Connection Failed!

Now I don't usually turn off my computer. Always leave it turned off and just log out from my xp profile.

But for some reason this morning I decided to turn it off. Big Mistake

6pm my sister calls me and says internet is not working.
No big deal I think, i'll fix it when i get back home from work.

So I get back home and look at the pc.
sure enough internet dosnt work.

in network connections I have my lan and my wireless connection.

I try to disable/enable the wireless but it still displays a red X on it. when I click enable it goes thruh 2 steps.
1) Enabling Device...
2) Connection Failed!

And when I right-click to view available networks, the whole window is greyed out, nothing is clickable.

I tried system restore, tried reinstalling the adaptor, safe mode, swearing, numerous reboots and... nothing.

It was working in the morning. I even checked the weather online...

It's a linksys pci g adaptor

Anyone has an idea?

Greyed out means another application is controlling the wireless networks. Look for some special linksys app on your computer.

Latest Ms Patches Kill Wireless Networking (Workaround/solution here)

I posted this article on another site,i should have also posted it here (Here it is now.....Could be your issue) -- Good luck!!

Problem

After installing the latest MS patches and after rebooting, the wireless network refuse to connect. It still shows excellent signal strength but is unable to establish a connection.

Solution

Uninstall the patches:

913807
905756
913161
912945
904942
912475

and reboot.

After rebooting, reinstall the patches one by one, reboot after each install.

you can try
start --> RUN - services.msc
choose wireless zero configuration
make sure its set to auto and started
then goto network connections
right click wireless connections
goto the wireless networks tab - make sure "use windows" is checked
then try view available and see if you can see networks

Try adjusting the router, maybe try some different channels for broadcasting, try different types of security. For example, my network throws fits when WPA is around.
