Help me with those Managed Servers

Hi there,

Please help me to choose the best of the the following Managed dedicated Servers.

Note that I spent a whole week narrowing down the options, and I'm trying to go for the cheapest server as much as possible.

Moreover, Rate the hosting company itself if you heared anything about them:

sectorlink.com
AMD 64 Sempron 3000 - 1024MB - 80GB - 750GB Bandwidth - 100Mbps ($80)

webhostplus.com
AMD Athalon XP 2800 - 1024MB - 80GB - Unlimited Bandwidth - 10Mbps ($100)

hostinganddesigns.com
AMD Barton 64 3000 - 1024MB - 80GB - Unlimited Bandwidth - 10Mbps ($90)

dedicatedplace.com
AMD Barton 3000 - 1024MB - 80GB - 1000GB Bandwidth - 10Mbps ($90)

servstra.com
AMD Barton 3000 - 1024MB - 80GB - 1000GB Bandwidth - 10Mbps ($90)

If someone can explain in breif if I need the port's speed to be 100Mbps or 10Mbps is enough for me to have a large bugy forum (+13K users) with some files (~5MB) to be downloaded

And do I need the processor to be 64bit?

Personally the sectorlink.com deal looks good to me.

A) it's cheapest
B) 1024MB should be plenty
C) Space shouldn't be an issue
D) 100Mbps port

You might need more bandwidth but I very much doubt it and I'm sure they'd add it on for you for a small extra.

Just my $0.02

Liam

I have read some good things regarding Servstra except one time I read that support has gotten a little slow however I have had no direct experience with them. I did just inquire with my current hosting company regarding a configuration that you desire just to see what they can offer and it was pretty decent in terms of pricing.

thenynoc.com
Pentium 4 2.4Ghz - 1024MB - 80GB - 1000GB Bandwidth - 100Mbps ($95)

Hope things go well in your search.

You should not need the OS to be 64 bit unless your applications specifically require it. That price and configuration was a custom quote so you would need to contact them directly to order either through email (the fastest reponse) or phone. They will take care of you from there.

My knowledge of the port question (10 or 100mbps) is limited so I cannot help you there. Sorry.

How much you need to add if you want 1024MB? If it comes around $90 still go for that.

can any one explain more when do I need 64bit processor and when do I need 100Mbps or just 10Mbps and when do I need 1GB RAM or just 512MB RAM, since I don't want to waste more money if I don't need them?

The price from servstra.com would be unmanaged though as that price does not include a control panel
