Sad day for our household
We have enjoyed the undying loyalty and friendship of our precious Sasha, our Maltese dog for over 18 years. It saddens me deeply to say that not 10 minutes ago, my wife and daughter left with Sasha to have her put down at the vet. Sasha is at the point in her life where she has cataracts, is mostly blind and deaf, and is now passing (painful) blood in her pee. And she is peeing about 10-15 times a day. She is clearly in a lot of pain, and the vet advised us that, at this point, the only humane thing to do (out of love) is to have her put down.
I said my goodbyes with her before she left. It was very difficult to let her go, knowing I would never see her again. But I have to focus on the fact that she will now be spared the daily pain and discomfort that has been increasing day to day.
Goodbye, Sasha. You were an awesome friend. You will be sorely missed.
Vito

I have been through that, and know what you are going through. It is certainly tough. My condolences.

vito, I'm terribly sorry to hear about your loss. However, she lived an amazingly long life -- over 18 years? Wow. Just know she is in a better place.

As a dog lover/owner, and one who may be facing that soon with Annie our 16 year old black lab mix...I feel your pain. I know there's nothing I can say to make you feel better. I'm sorry.

So sorry, Vito. Very painful to lose a family member like this.

That is really sad. I can't imagine how it must be to have to say goodbye to a family member, even if it is "just a dog".

I am very sorry for your loss. We have a pet of our own and it would be a travesty if she where no longer with us.

I love animals, and I can feel your pain now. Pets basically become a family members, so it's very hard to loose them. Like everyone said, she enjoyed a great life, and as it is, we all have to die sometimes. It's a great thing you had her and she wasn't on the streets abused and hungry like millions of other pets.

By the way, don't listen to Metallica's Orion and read a thread like this. That's a very emotional song, and reading this thread, I have butterflies in my stomach even though I really never even knew this dog.

Sorry for your loss Vito. I've said goodbye to some dogs in the past, and it's a traumatic experience.

Sorry to hear about your dog, vito. It's hard to have a pet pass away no matter how old they are or what the circumstances.
