I got mine for free.

But then I'm on contract.

Excellent phone though! I use it with a Parrot radio in the car which streams the mp3s from it via bluetooth to play on your car radio. Pretty neat.

I got mine free on contract 12 months at £25/month (about $40) for 500 minutes any network any time.

But I had been with them for 12 months prior to that.

It all depends how much you pay for the phone. Personally I don't think pay as you go is worth it as the phone costs almost the same as a contract would over a year plus the call charges are way more on pay as you go.
